It’s Halloween Already?

I have been neglecting this blog again. I doubt anyone besides my mom has noticed. Still, I figured it’s about time I get into the rhythm of things again.

I’ll be redesigning the website at some point, and there’s not much point in doing that without new content.

So what have I been up to? A lot.

I have a new job at a startup company called Windsor Circle. That gig is keeping me busy, and offering me more opportunities to learn about software. I do tech support for them, not a field I ever imagined myself being in. But it is challenging, and that keeps my big brain.

I wrote for the DSI sketch show. One of my sketches was selected for the show, and a few others are in the “holding tank”. We still have a lot of work to do, but I’m confident the show in December will be one of our best sketch shows yet.

Capclave happened. It was fun, as always. Definitely going to go next year too.

I’m a Municipal Liaison for NaNoWriMo. That and the sketch show are going to rule my life in November.

I am teaching myself to play the piano and a guitar. I bought used instruments off of Craigslist. So far, piano is my favorite. But that’s probably because I don’t have to be double-jointed to form chords. Guitars are not friendly to those of us with small fingers.

I watched someone die despite my attempts to keep them alive. Experienced a relapse of my depression as a result. Returned to counseling. Recovered relatively fast because this is unfortunately not the first time. Still glad I decided not to go into medicine. I would have become an alcoholic for sure.

Got a professional organizer to rearrange my kitchen. So far, it is has been worth the investment and stays cleaner than it used to. I’m considering doing the same for my bedroom.

Started looking at apartments in Durham. As much as I hate moving, I’m thinking about moving closer to work so I can bike when it’s nice out.

Traveled to Asheville for Word Camp.

Binge-watched an entire season of Rupaul’s Drag Race.

Slid down a slide in our office.

Explored rooftops in Durham.

Spent a whole day in bed, reading books.

Got a C on a midterm and didn’t care.

Enjoyed several shows with the Improvised Whedon Company.

Watched a horror film that I actually enjoyed.

Wrote letters to a friend in prison.

Wrote letters to politicians.

Wrote stories and novel chapters.

Wrote this blog post.

Oh, and Mom, I know you’ll worry about that thing in the middle. Save your energy. I’m fine, and the upside is I am more comfortable than ever with the person I am, the dreams I have, and the life I have chosen to live.
